January Veganuary – Reasons To Go Vegan In 2023

It’s Veganuary! Are you ready to try a vegan diet? Let’s take a look at the benefits and why you should give it a go.

As a business we thrive off producing frozen fruit, pulses and grains, we know what great additions they can be to a vegan diet. We have the perfect solutions for food manufacturers who want to incorporate produce for a healthy lifestyle.

We can offer a vast range of British and imported produce to fulfil all your requirements, as well as provide you with a comprehensive bespoke service.

Smoothie mixes and health benefits

Our ready-to-blend smoothie mixes are packed full of antioxidants, vitamin C and many other essential vitamins and minerals. With superfood ingredients such as; blueberries, spinach and kale, they are perfect for detoxing, maintaining healthy blood pressure, and reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke.
One cup of blueberries can provide 24% of your daily vitamin C intake, perfect for warding off those pesky viruses, maintaining healthy skin and keeping your bones nice and strong.
It can even prevent some types of cancer, as well as having a positive effect upon blood sugar levels.
Pomegranates known for their vibrant appearance have been shown to improve physical endurance due to their polyphenols, which helps fight off exhaustion, allowing you to exercise for longer and also contributes towards muscle recovery.

New year’s resolutions

We see January as the month for New Year’s resolutions. Many of us decide on a new health pledge, gym memberships, detoxing and diet changes.
Veganuary made its appearance here in the UK in 2014, by a non-profit organisation with the aim of encouraging people to choose a healthy vegan diet, starting in January.

Eating habits are changing with the number of British vegans quadrupling between 2014 & 2018 and numbers continuing to rise year on year. 2023 is already showing a record breaking 2.4 participants signing up for veganuary every second. With plant based foods not only offering health benefits it is 40% cheaper than meat or fish diets.

What does Veganism do for the environment?

As a business we are conscious of our environmental footprint, and encourage the positive impacts a vegan diet contributes to the reduction of food-related emissions. If we all went vegan, these emissions would decline by 70% by 2050. These economic savings would amount to a whopping £440 billion!

Healthy weight loss

So those of you who want to reap the health benefits and lose weight should really give it a try. Not only is it super healthy, but there have been reports of an average weight loss of 6lbs within one month of changing to a vegan diet. Interestingly those on a vegan diet reportedly lost more weight than if on a vegetarian, meat or fish diet. Plus it is great for reducing cholesterol levels by up to 30%, due to plant based foods replacing saturated fat with unsaturated fat, significantly lowering the risk of heart disease & stroke by up to 57%.

On the pulse

Pulses and grains have been a staple part of our diet for thousands of years. One of the few foods that are classed as both vegetable and protein, they provide a great source of nutrition, help lower cholesterol levels, maintain a healthy gut and importantly are low in sugar and calories. Containing fibre, iron and protein, makes them a great alternative to meat, one tin of kidney beans contains as much protein as a portion of minced beef!
Our pulses, including kidney beans, chickpeas and lentils offer a great sustainable and versatile addition to many recipes and can be used in multiple forms to suit your requirements.

Health for life

Remember good health is for life not for just a month! Veganuary is a good start, think about having a healthy lifestyle journey. A vegan diet can incorporate your favourite foods that are delicious, nutritious and doesn’t leave you hungry!
