On 5 June, we welcomed early-career professionals from across the agri-tech sector to our Norfolk farm for a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the future of fruit farming.
Organised by Agri-TechE’s Early-Career Innovators’ Forum (ECIF), the visit brought together researchers, agronomists and agricultural consultants to explore innovations in sustainable farming, robotics, and automation. The group arrived with lots of curiosity and questions.
With 20 people joining us for the evening, we took delegates inside the strawberry polytunnels to see and hear how we continue to trial and test new technologies to improve our productivity and environmental resilience.

The highlight for many was a live demonstration of our UV robot, which travels up and down the strawberry lines nightly applying UV light as a pest-control alternative. We also explained how our smart irrigation systems and ground source heating provide optimal growing conditions for strawberries, raspberries and blackberries; helping us to extend the growing season.
Leading the tour and imparting so much knowledge with the early-career scientists and students was our farm production Manager Dan Yordanov, supported by our farm operations and arable manager Stefan Arsene.
Both talked passionately about why Place UK’s forward-thinking approach is helping shape the future of British fruit farming.
“We’re proud to support new talent and demonstrate that fruit farming is a dynamic, tech-driven industry,” said Dan Yordanov. “From robotics to sustainable growing methods, we’re constantly trialling new innovations to meet the challenges ahead.”
Dr Laura Bouvet, Knowledge Exchange Manager at Agri-TechE, explains “This visit gave our ECIF community the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge approaches to fruit production, including robotics, precision irrigation, sustainable energy use, and integrated pest management.
And the chance to see agri-tech in action, learning first-hand about the real-world challenges and opportunities driving the future of fruit farming.
“Seeing the intersection of science, innovation and farming is always exciting. But what makes it especially powerful is seeing the next generation of key players come together – sharing experiences, learning from one another, and gaining an understanding of each other’s perspectives and needs. That’s where the real magic happens.”
Visitors also sampled the season’s very first pick of cherries.
Place UK’s support for this event reflects our ongoing mission to foster innovation, sustainability, and talent development in the agri-tech sector.
